OK Go, the guys behind the treadmill video Here It Goes Again a few years ago, also known for A Million Ways. Their new album is out, and the first video was neat: WTF? but I kinda figured they had something better in store.
So, first came this:
Uh-oh! YouTube won't show their video? WTF? Oh, wait, here it is:
Ah, but never happy to do just one video for a song, here it is again:
And if that wasn't cool enough, each of those videos shown above for that song were done in one take.
If you liked this song, check out Joe Satriani and Steve Vai. They all play similar styles, and you can find them on the G3 Concert disc together--and of course, that disc absolutely rocks.

You can also find Satriani playing with the supergroup Chickenfoot, whose self-titled album rocks. Not as big a fan of Vai, I don't find he has quite as good phrasing as Satriani. Although to be fair, Cliffs of Dover is the only Eric Johnson song I've latched on to, so I can't say I'm a huge fan of him either. I'll have to look into that G3 Concert disc, sounds interesting.
GJ said about 1 hour later
Give a listen to Eric Johnson's Bloom. I think you'll get into that album just fine.
GJ said about 1 hour later
And Vai is freaking awesome. Dammit, I just went and created yet another Pandora station. Look what you did!
GJ said about 3 hours later
Check out this song by Steve Morse, it is awesome!
Stan Freeburg also does Green Chri$tma$, which it very good too...and also on that CD

You have to check out The Dan Band, "I Wanna Rock Your Body Hard This Christmas." It's not for the kids (they have a much higher IQ than I!) It's pretty stupid and tasteless, but I thought it was funny. Sorry I don't have the link.
GJ said 2 days later
The lyrics are right here, and yes, it's not something you want the kids singing along to.
Tone Loc had two major hits in the late 80s, Wild Thing and Funky Cold Medina. If you remember them, you might have thought that they sounded fairly similar. Guess what: they were.
Not to be outdone, the good folks in Nickelback tried it out. More than a few times. Here's one sample.
Well, I'll give them this. I like their new album. Got some amusing songs on it, but nothing really unique or breakthrough...unlike Rush of course.
GJ said about 1 hour later
Who, Nickelback? I'll admit to owning two of their albums, and I can honestly say I was certifiably insane when I purchased them. They're really pretty much nickel and dime processed rock, and you're right--they're nowhere near Rush level. In fact, they're nowhere near Milli Vanilli level, either. Not that I'm comparing Rush to MV, or anything.
Geoff said about 9 hours later
Yeah Nickel. I wasn't expecting much so I wasn't real disappointed. Anyone listening to some good new artists or albums as of late?
GJ said about 9 hours later
Eagerly awaiting a new album from OK GO, listening to (but not overly impressed by) Green Day's new album, and catching up on Tod Snyder's music. I got his debut album way back in the mid 90s, and then forgot about him until picking up his live album over the summer. And yes, I still listen to those ancient CD thingys.
Marc said 1 day later
The new Green Day album sucks. It's a mix of artistry and their old crap. American Idiot was their peak, they need to go back to that style. No more rock opera crap.
I have to say I'm still addicted to Chickenfoot. Those guys just rock.
GJ said 1 day later
I wouldn't say it sucks, but it's far too safe. 21 Guns is a great pop tune, and there are 1-2 other good tracks, but Do You Know Your Enemy could have made this posting for being practically identical to American Idiot, and frankly, if I'm not singing along (horribly, btw) to the album by the third or forth play, it's just not doing it for me.
You realize though that American Idiot was rock opera, right? That's part of what made that work. This album lacks any kind of cohesiveness--I have no idea how they'll turn this into a stage play, as has been suggested.
As for Chickenfoot--color me amazed that they haven't self-imploded yet. There are some titantic-sized egos among those band members. I'll have to give them a listen, as I have more than a couple of Satriani albums. So long as he's not singing or writing the lyrics, they could be ok. :)

21 guns from Green Day is good...I also love Peacemaker. Nice little Latin Rock song.
As many of you probably know by now, I have Rock Band 2 and plan to bring it back during Thanksgiving and Christmas solely so I can hear Geoff sing again. One of the benefits now is we can download more music, which we couldn't do with the old Playstation 2 version we had.
I have uploaded a spreadsheet to my server which you guys can take a look at here. It's the list of all available songs to download and which ones I currently have (or think I have, hard to remember). Take a look through and let me know in the comments which songs you're interested in that I don't have and I'll look into picking those up before I come as I don't feel like paying $100 to get the wireless adapter for the Xbox 360.
I look forward to the many "You downloaded all that crappy Rush, but not xxx" comments likely to come.
Also note, I'll be bringing the less fun Guitar Hero World Tour, which has some more songs. Many it has in common though, and we could always try the Music Studio and see just how musically untalented the family is as a band.

Metallica - And Justice For All
NIN - The Perfect Drug
Rush - Limelight??? You Don't Have, how dare you.
Shinedown - Devour
Six:A.M. - Life is Beautiful (great song)
Smashing Pumpkins - Siva
The Greatful Dead - Casey Jones
Marc said 20 minutes later
I knew the limelight song was coming. Notice I have the Limelight (Original Version). The original was a cover and a horrid one at that. You'll also notice I have two Working Mans. One is a cover and has the original solo. The other is the Vault Edition (master track) which has a pretty awesome and very different solo.
GJ said about 2 hours later
I think you have most of these...
War Pigs - Black Sabbath (tho I prefer the Faith No More cover)
Juke Box Hero (c'mon, I grew up in the early 80s)
Bad to the Bone (see above)
3's and 7's (tho this is in RB3, it's awesome)
Where the hell is the Black Crowes' 'Twice As Hard'???
Summertime Blues
Joker and the Thief - Wolfmother
Marc said about 2 hours later
Dang, Geoff how'd I miss Life is Beautiful? That is an awesome song. All good suggestions so far guys, I should have 'em all for Thanksgiving. Summertime Blues kinda stinks. I love to say it, but Rush really did a much better version...heck I've heard some better country versions than The Who's. Maybe it's just because it's their Live version. It's all the singer's fault, the music is really hard to make sound bad.
GJ said about 8 hours later
You just aren't playing the Who's version loud enough, or you haven't had quite enough beer. :)
Marc said 2 days later
I also just picked up the AC/DC track pack, which includes 18 songs from them, all of their good ones. To anyone who isn't an AC/DC fan, I've picked up 18 songs that sound exactly the same. :)

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
GJ said 2 days later
Get enough vodak in me and I'll sing. Which won't be pretty. Just ask Darcy.
Geoff said 2 days later
Nobody can sing like me, ok? I'm taking names come Turkey Day. I will own AC/DC.
Kristen said 2 days later
Drew will try to give you a run for your money on that Geoff--who is bringing the video camera??
Marc said 2 days later
Drinking + Rock Band is good...me and a couple IBM buddies gave it a go, we were playing until about 4 AM and I've got a couple funny videos from it as well.
GJ said 2 days later
Mom and Dad still have a fair amount of Stoli. I'm set...but I still can't sing to save my life. Or play guitar beyond "medium," nor even come close to playing drums on even "easy." Meh. Wii Tennis, anyone? Btw, we need to find a bigger room to do that in. :)
Geoff said 2 days later
I'm game for all the above. Well, save for the boos, I can act like an idiot all on my own :)
Think you know that Lynyrd Skynyrd song "Sweet Home Alabama?" You are in for a treat. May I present the Lenigrad Cowboys, accompanied by the Soviet Red Army Choir. Glasnost, indeed!
