If you were to buy 32 AA batteries for the normal price in normal packaging (About $5 for 4), it would cost you about $40. But not anymore!

Lifehacker.com is all about simplifying your life, but they have a great post about "hacking" a 6V battery. Did you know they simply contain 32 AA batteries? And they're only about $4-5. Just watch the video, it looks like it's really easy to do!

Or just use rechargeables. That's what I use exclusively in the Wiimotes, wireless mice / keyboard, and pretty much any other AA device. I don't both doing that for C or D batteries, mostly because I use so few of them and they last nearly forever anyhow.

Yup rechargeables work too. This might be handy for people with cameras that absolutely eat up batteries and carrying a bunch of rechargeables can get expensive.

Um, yes, expensive in terms of set up costs. You're going to carry the same # of batteries either way, depending on the burn rate of your device, but the cost only goes in favor of the lantern when your battery burn rate is so low your rechargeables die due to infrequent use instead of consumption. Cost equation: lantern sourced batteries cost you $0.15625 per use, not counting your labor of extracting them in the first place. Rechargeables like my 2500mAh ones can be recharged about 500 times over their life. A standard (8-hour) charger with four batteries will set you back about $20 or so. That comes our to $0.01 per use, and includes the price of the charger. No matter how you cut it, rechargeables are at least 15X cheaper than lantern sourced batteries.

Just watch slickdeals.net, they always have huge quantities of AAs and AAAs coming up for that kind of price.
