Merry Christmas!
posted by GJ on December 24, 2009 @ 9:40PM
Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse. The stockings were hung by the chimney with care, In hopes that St Nicholas soon would be there.
The children were nestled all snug in their beds, While visions of sugar-plums danced in their heads. And mamma in her ‘kerchief, and I in my cap, Had just settled our brains for a long winter’s nap.
When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter, I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter. Away to the window I flew like a flash, Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash.
The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow Gave the lustre of mid-day to objects below. When, what to my wondering eyes should appear, But a miniature sleigh, and eight tinny reindeer.
With a little old driver, so lively and quick, I knew in a moment it must be St Nick. More rapid than eagles his coursers they came, And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name!
"Now Dasher! now, Dancer! now, Prancer and Vixen! On, Comet! On, Cupid! on, on Donner and Blitzen! To the top of the porch! to the top of the wall! Now dash away! Dash away! Dash away all!"
As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly, When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky. So up to the house-top the coursers they flew, With the sleigh full of Toys, and St Nicholas too.
And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof The prancing and pawing of each little hoof. As I drew in my head, and was turning around, Down the chimney St Nicholas came with a bound.
He was dressed all in fur, from his head to his foot, And his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot. A bundle of Toys he had flung on his back, And he looked like a peddler, just opening his pack.
His eyes-how they twinkled! his dimples how merry! His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry! His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow, And the beard of his chin was as white as the snow.
The stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth, And the smoke it encircled his head like a wreath. He had a broad face and a little round belly, That shook when he laughed, like a bowlful of jelly!
He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf, And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself! A wink of his eye and a twist of his head, Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread.
He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work, And filled all the stockings, then turned with a jerk. And laying his finger aside of his nose, And giving a nod, up the chimney he rose!
He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle, And away they all flew like the down of a thistle. But I heard him exclaim, ‘ere he drove out of sight, "Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good-night!"

What games to bring this year?
posted by GJ on December 16, 2009 @ 12:21PM
Christmas is coming SOON and I probably don't have room to bring every board game I have these days. So, here's the list, you folks get to vote on what you'd like to play. Note, Steve and Parsla have dupes of some of these, so perhaps they can bring one or two of them. Anyhow, here goes: - Dominion & Dominion Intrigue
- Ticket to Ride / TTR 1910 expansion
- Ticket to Ride Europe
- Settlers of Catan
- Killer Bunnies and the Quest for the Magic Carrot
- Apples to Apples
- Balderdash
- Clever Endeavor
- Inklings
- Risk
- Axis & Allies
- I'm sure there are a few more, but I forget.
Vote in the comments below. Voting is open through 12/24.

NYS Football Championships!
posted by GJ on November 23, 2009 @ 6:10AM
We're going to the dome! Burnt Hills is our school district, and they've managed to make it back to the Class A state finals a second year in a row. Last year, they lost to Sweet Home (Amherst, NY) 35-28 in the finals--but we're back with several new faces, and we're facing none other than Sweet Home again this year! They also managed to make it back a second year--so here we go! Anyhow, the game is at 6pm in the Dome on Saturday. Don't know if anyone else is a big football fan--or if Geoff, being from Western NY, wants to come to cheer on Sweet Home. :) Tix are $10.

Prepare for Rock Band 2
posted by Marc on November 12, 2008 @ 1:44PM
As many of you probably know by now, I have Rock Band 2 and plan to bring it back during Thanksgiving and Christmas solely so I can hear Geoff sing again. One of the benefits now is we can download more music, which we couldn't do with the old Playstation 2 version we had. I have uploaded a spreadsheet to my server which you guys can take a look at here. It's the list of all available songs to download and which ones I currently have (or think I have, hard to remember). Take a look through and let me know in the comments which songs you're interested in that I don't have and I'll look into picking those up before I come as I don't feel like paying $100 to get the wireless adapter for the Xbox 360. I look forward to the many "You downloaded all that crappy Rush, but not xxx" comments likely to come.

Calling all Golfers
posted by Geoff on May 19, 2008 @ 10:44AM
Memorial Day Weekend kicks off soon. For those of you who intend to make fools of yourself on the golf course, be sure to bring your sticks. I'm thinking possibly a Saturday morning warmup for any interested (Marc's graduation is Saturday afternoon) and then a perhaps the official game Sunday morning before the festivities. What is everyone else's plans?

Calling all Cookies
posted by Geoff on March 17, 2008 @ 10:17PM
Since many of us are coming back to Syracuse for Easter, I thought I would put into motion a request for some delicious home baked cookies. We are hoping to bring home a batch ourselves...if I don't eat them all by Friday. Does anyone second this motion?

Travel status
posted by GJ on December 9, 2007 @ 5:16PM
Sorry, I've been out of cool topics to discuss of late (hey, I know, let me bring up the controversy about the Golden Compass being atheist propanda, right?) so let's do the who's coming in to town when thingy...in the comments, of course. Yes, I'll bring the train game again, unless you're all bored with it. Same deal for the Wii, but should I bother bringing Guitar Hero since we still only have one guitar? Let me know.

Mom & Dad anniversary gift (No parents allowed!)
posted by Kristen on December 3, 2007 @ 11:03AM
Since Thanksgiving, I've been trying to brainstorm a really awesome anniversary gift for mom and dad. It's pretty cool that they're inviting us along for their celebration, so I wanted the gift to be really special! Here are my ideas: 1. A picture calendar--one of my coworkers just had calendars made for her family using old family photos that she scanned. You can then input important dates like birthdays and anniversaries and arrange the photos as you like--even repair them if needed! You can make it an 18 month calendar, so we could do August 08 through till the following December 09. 2. Depending on how I do collecting old photos (which I will do this coming Christmas, somehow!), I might try to put together a powerpoint slideshow. This was my original idea, but I admit I was a little worried about how long it might take me (you know how the bigger a project you take on, the less likely you are to finish it?) I really wanted to add in sound clips by recording a little snippet from everyone, including the grandkids. I might still try to do this--I figure all I need to get is a mic right? And then hook it up to one of the 5 or 6 laptops we have at the house over the holidays? I thought we could record a favorite memory, story, joke, something learned...whatever. I thought that I could try to make arrangements to show the slideshow somewhere....maybe a lobby somewhere...I'd have to worry about a projector and screen, but I bet knowing Disney they might be able to help out. I figure I could start with the calendar and see how ambitious I feel after that. What do y'all think?
