Stupid USA Today "science" article

An article in today's edition of USA Today claims a recent study shows usage of cell phones causes changes in brain chemistry, and attributes this to microwave radiation. They say that this microwave radiation is heating the localized area near the phone. Duh--that's what microwave radiation does. However, when you use your phone, what parts get warm to the touch? It's not the freaking antenna, brainiac scientists. It's the battery and the cpu, and they give off infrared radiation which serves to heat up the surrounding area so much that YOU CAN ACTUALLY FEEL THIS HEAT WITH YOUR HANDS. So, which do we think is having a bigger effect on brain chemistry? Now, the study looks ok--it's what the reporter did with the story that kills me. Nah, don't talk much to the study author--instead, take the reporters preconceptions about the dangers of cell phone use, and then find some sympathetic voices in the medical world. What do you get? A lousy scare-piece that doesn't really reflect one iota of what this study was trying to show. USA Today should toss that reporter, and find people who are truly qualified to report on science issues--like, I dunno, people who understand how science works.
