Rush Limbaugh...no Constitutional Scholar!

Speaking at the Conservative Political Action Conference on Saturday, Rush had this to say: "We believe that the preamble to the Constitution contains an inarguable truth that we are all endowed by our creator with certain inalienable rights, among them life. Liberty, Freedom. And the pursuit of happiness." Um, Rush...that's the Declaration of Indepence, not the Constitution. The Constitution's preamble is the following: "We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America." It might be of interest to Rush and others that the Constitution is a secular document with no reference to God. It was written that way on purpose by its authors, many of whom had been horrified at the misuse of religious sway by the King of England and his religious cronies. The founders saw absolutely no place for it in the Constitution--this is why we have a Separation of Church and State in the federal government. It's as important today as it was then, to preserve religious freedom and keep the government from becoming a theocracy.
