Socialism: are we heading for Doom?
posted by Kristen on April 1, 2009 @ 7:09AM

I got this in an email from a teacher today.  Probably not a "factual analogy", since when someone asserts that it usually means that it's not, but still relevant for debate purposes.  Now don't say I never post anything!  :)

A factual analogy how socialism/(communism) would work. Pass this on.

An economics professor at Texas Tech said he had never failed a single student before but had once failed an entire class. The class had insisted that socialism worked and that no one would be poor and no one would be rich, a great equalizer. The professor then said okay, we will have an experiment in this class on socialism.

All grades would be averaged and everyone would receive the same grade so no one would fail and no one would receive an A. After the first test the grades were averaged and everyone got a B. The students who studied hard were upset, and the students who studied little were happy. But, as the second test rolled around, the students who studied little had studied even less and the ones who studied hard decided they wanted a free ride too, so they studied little. The second test average was a D! No one was happy. When the third test rolled around, the average was an F.

The scores never increased as bickering, blame and name-calling all resulted in hard feelings and no one would study for anyone else. All failed, to their great surprise. And the professor told them that socialism would ultimately fail too because those who try harder to succeed, reap the greater the reward, but when a government takes all the reward away, no one will try or succeed.

We Americans can get Ugly, but how about those Brits?

Check out this slideshow of British tourist complaints to their travel agents.  And to think I thought Americans were the only dumb and ugly ones.  :)

I kid you not, this is a real picture of a real church sign.  What's funny is, I've had people try to explain this concept to me.  The fact they can say it with a straight face kills me everytime.

Nintendo thought it had a Revolution with the Wii.  This could be far bigger...if it works as described.

This nonsense must stop

Quick lesson on school textbooks--many of them are sourced from Texas.  Know why?  It's a big, populous state.  What's good for the goose is good for the gander, or some such logic, gives rise to the fact that textbooks that are approved for use in Texas often find their way into almost every other state's curricula due ease of review.

Guess where the fundamentalist creationists (hereafter maliciously referred to as "creobots") are mounting their latest attack on the teaching of evolution?  Texas?  You'd be right--they are attempting to head off the teaching of evolution across the country at the proverbial pass.  Check out this article in the NY Times for background.

Grrrr...this just makes my blood boil--and I hope it makes yours boil, too.  Teaching stupidity to our kids instead of scientific fact is no way to ensure our kids can complete on a global platform with their peers in Europe and Asia.  And, make no mistake about it, this is a form of mind control that the creobots wish to implement here, to help bolster their ranks.  I expect this from Scientologists--and who do you think the Scientologists looked to for their inspiration?  Yup, the creobots.

Ok, back to your regularly scheduled blogram of videos and other fun / interesting stuff.

Oh, wait, this post needs a picture.
