Moving fantasy sports to ESPN
posted by GJ on August 30, 2008 @ 7:32PM
OK, folks...I'm seriously planning to move both our football and hockey leagues to ESPN. Thoughts? Biggest plus: free live scoring in both! Woohoo! Also, we can do keepers in both leagues. For football, I will do the draft so that we all get the same players that we have in the current Yahoo league. Yes? No? Let me know!

So, here we go: Obama-Biden vs McCain-Palin
posted by GJ on August 29, 2008 @ 2:50PM
The VPs have been picked, and we're off to the races! Oh yeah, the GOP still has their convention, but seriously, do they think they can top what the Dems pulled off? Obama's pick seems fairly logical--but McCain's--I dunno. Seems like he mostly wants to attract the "legions" of dissatisfied Clinton PUMAs with a female VP who could conceivably become president (after all, the former POW just turned 72). Too bad she's pretty much standard right-wing fare--anti-abortion, anti-climate-change, anti-evolution, and hey, even somewhat scandal-ridden. She'll fit right in. About the only thing she has going for her--she's a hockey mom. :) Thoughts from other side?

Fantasy Football News
posted by GJ on August 29, 2008 @ 9:44AM
Just a reminder--first day of league play begins September 4th (next Thursday), and runs through the Monday night game. Lineups can be adjusted right up to the point where your players play, but once their respective game starts, they locked into whatever slot you have them in (bench vs start). Schedule-wise, this Thursday game will be the last until the first weekend in November. From that point forward, there will be at least one Thursday game every week until the season ends. There is one Saturday game, but that week also features a Thursday game, so you should OK if you have your lineups ready by Thursday evening. One change was made to scoring--players will now get fractional credit for yardage. I don't expect this to do much to change scoring, I'm still going to kick the crap out of everyone this year. Good luck, everyone!

Even more convincing evidence that I am a blonde.

I better than I anticipated on the WaWa 10 miler this morning--thanks mostly to finding my former coworker Sandy, who runs at the exact same pace that I do. We finished in 1 hour and 42 minutes, which was 8 minutes faster than my goal time. Not bad for me considering that this course is considered very difficult by the elites...all rolling hills and severely banked curves. Plus it was in the low 80's and 88% humidity.
Literally about 60 seconds before the gun went off, when I bent down to put my ankle strap on, I suddenly realized that in my haste trying to get out the door by 6:30 I had accidentally put on different shoes. Not surprising I guess, since I have 5 pairs tucked under my bed. I was mortified! Half considered calling it a day. Only I could have possibly had this happen! As Sandra pointed out, at least I had them on the right feet. www.ImageShack.us" />

Some great political sites
posted by GJ on August 22, 2008 @ 11:42AM
I hope everyone is planning to vote this year (and every year--it's an important responsibility). Here's a few neutral political fact-checking sites: one for Obama, one for McCain. Here's a favorite of mine--while the author definitely leans Dem, he keeps his main page neutral. His main page is a combination of the current Electoral Vote map, based on current polls, and general election news covering Presidential, House and Senate races. Generally, he updates it every day, and believe it or not it's actually an interesting read. Go check out Electoral-Vote.com today!
