Where do I even begin?? Did Buzz say he saw an alien? No. What he saw was a unidentified object...not an unidentified flying object.
Want to know what he saw? What year was this? 1969. How many years had we been firing up unmanned satellites? The Russians started in 1957. You realize that we have a lot of "junk" in space due to launches, right? Back in 1969, most folks assumed the various junk items in space introduced by humans would fall back to earth and burn up in the atmosphere in short order. As it turns out, they were wrong, and we now have a LOT of metal junk in space. So, let's apply a bit of Occam's Razor to this:
Is it likely this object seen was a space ship? Or scrap? You notice that Buzz isn't sure how far away the object is--other than he's sure it's not the booster, since that's 6,000 miles away. So...if you can't tell how far away the item is, it's really hard to judge the size of the object. Again--what's more likely?

See, you would think these astronauts would be able to determine the difference between space junk (and this is 1969...how much space junk could there really be?) and possible alien space craft.
Now, the fact that this has been reported by other space flights, would suggest that either the aliens are persistent, or that it is space junk. So one would assume it is more likely space junk, but they assume wrong because aliens are persistent, I mean look at how many stupid farmers they abduct?
My deductive reasoning is astonishing, it's only a matter of time before I'm acknowledged in the field of Science as the supreme being (Science, ha, I mean Scientology).

Your idea of space junk probably looks like what's in your garbage can. Remember, in 1969, they have no idea what Russian space craft look like, and they don't know what kind of junk is being dropped into orbit. You're right--there isn't much garbage in space yet in 1969...so it's appearance would be confusing to anyone not expecting to see it. Note that you aren't seeing space shuttle commanders talking about this kind of thing--because they see it all the time now.
